Dr. Melanie Scharrer, MD

In addition to my clinical work, I teach medical students and psychiatry residents and advocate as a part of the Physicians For Human Rights' Asylum Network and the Association for LGBTQ+ Psychiatrists.  I am dedicated to honoring clients who want to integrate their deeply held values and religious practices into their treatment plans.  I have experience in navigating cross-cultural issues that often arise in blended relationships and families.  

In 2025, Scharrer Psychiatric Consulting expanded to accept some insurance payments for clinical care. My experiences as a neurodivergent, queer, gamer influence how I practice. In this clinic, each person's values, identity are an integral part of their care. No one is asked to check their beliefs or culture at the door. My approach to psychiatry is one of non-judgmental compassion, scientific curiosity, and, in the right context, play.
